Our Story
From a mobile detailing truck to a team in Huntington Beach. A story of learning, determination, and the customers who made it possible.
Built From the Ground Up. Built on Trust.
Our story, by founder Alex L.
In 2009, I started Rhino Custom Mobile Detailing with about $2,500 in borrowed money, a passion for cars, and the determination to get back on my feet.
My childhood was marked by loss and instability. Between foster homes, placement homes, and temporary stays with relatives, I rarely had the chance to settle down, focus on school, or experience the security that many children grow up with.
After turning 18, I began finding my footing. But losing my sister sent me into another difficult chapter. Eventually, I knew I had to find a way forward. Working on cars gave me something to focus on—and something worth building.
A truck, a few tools, and a beginning.
In those early days, I spent much of my time living in my truck. I cut personal expenses wherever I could and put what I earned into better equipment, learning new techniques, and improving my work.
Paint correction became my focus. I wanted to understand how to bring out the best in a finish: how to polish more precisely, restore clarity, and deliver results that made customers proud of their cars.
Each customer gave me an opportunity to improve. Their trust gave me a reason to keep going.
After two to three years of mobile detailing, I saved enough to open a roughly 900-square-foot shop on Slater in Huntington Beach.
It was small, but to me, it meant progress. It meant a roof over my head and a place to build something more permanent.
Learning never stopped.
As my mobile customers began coming to the shop, I continued refining my paint correction skills. When I was introduced to ceramic coatings, I studied how they could help preserve the finishes I worked so hard to restore.
Later, visits to industry events, including SEMA in Las Vegas, opened my eyes to advances in paint protection film and vinyl wraps. I saw an opportunity to offer my customers more—and committed myself to learning and practicing those skills.
That pursuit gradually transformed Rhino Custom Mobile Detailing into Rhino Films & Detailing.
Every new service came back to the same question: How can we take better care of our customers and their vehicles?
A bigger shop. The same commitment.
Several moves later, Rhino now operates from a roughly 20,000-square-foot facility in Huntington Beach, built out by hand with help from friends. It brings together our wrapping, tinting, and detailing work in a space that reflects how far we have come.
Today, Rhino is much more than one person with a truck. It is a team of skilled people helping customers protect, restore, and personalize vehicles they care about.
But the responsibility still feels personal.
I remember what it took to earn those first customers. I remember what their trust made possible. That stays with me in the products we choose, the work we deliver, and the way we stand behind it.
Rhino gave me a way to rebuild my life. Together with our team and customers, it has become something I am proud to keep building.
Thank you for being part of our story.
